Torii

TORII

Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company creates dances for the camera. Filmed in the majestic vastness of northern California, Torii is an ode to the natural magnificence of open land and unfettered sky. This short dance poem features choreographer and dancer Daniel Gwirtzman in conversation with the larger-than-life redwood sculpture by artist Bruce Johnson. Gwirtzman treats Torii as a contemporary totem, a symbolic gateway from the technological world and a sign of earthly worship. The film is made possible in part thanks to a residency from the Djerassi Resident Artists Program.
